OLD CHRISTCHURCH TRAMS
VO THE EDITOR Of THX PB.BS** Sir,—l read in the report of Mr H. E Jarman’s talk that the old Christchurch Tramway Company ran trams to various routes. One or two statements, I think, are not quite correct. Trams are stated to have run to oydenham, Addington, and the railway station. So far as my memory goes, trams did not run to Addington or the railway station, and they Sydenham to the end of Colombo street. I nave a photograph of the railway station on the occasion of tne visit of the Duke and Duchess of York, and there is no sign of tram lines. I think coaches ran to Addington and to several other places. I certainly remember a motor-bus running for a short time to the railway station, but Ido nof know who ran it. it would be running about 1904 Perhaps someone else could settle this small point. Yours, Temuka, August 18, 1939. [This letter was referred to Mr Jarman, who had no comment to make.]
