WINTER SHOW AND INDUSTRIES FAIR
*o the ewtob or the pbsss. Sir, —As the industries fair has now closed it seems an opportune time to bring before the public the fact that this fixture is anything but a credit to North Canterbury. During Carnival Week three North Island visitors interested in winter shows paid a visit to the industries fair with the intention of spending the whole evening among the exhibits, but they found so little to interest them that they left m about half an hour. A Hamilton visitor went to the fair on opening day to get some tips for his show, but he left with the feeling that. Hamilton, although only a small toWh when compared with Christchurch, could, give the larger centre many points in running a show. The Christchurch winter fixture has been going back for a number of years. Some of the earlier displays in the Drill Hall were excellent, so why cannot town and country come together again and put on a winter show worthy of North Canterbury and not, as at present, a very bad advertisement for the district. 1 know that many visitors to this year’s show have been very much disappointed and consider this year’s show was not even up to last year’s standard. It is said the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Manufacturers’ Association cannot agree on the running of a show. The one organisation blames the other, but there is definite evidence that both are to blame, apd it is time the public demanded that these differences should be' settled so that a winter show worthy of the province can be staged at Christchurch. —Yours, AfC ONLOOKER.
