Mr and Mrs Brian Boys - (Waipukurau) will arrive in Christchurch at the end of next week and will be the guests of Mr and Mrs Rossmore Cracroft Wilson. Later they will visit Mr and Mrs J. Rfowbray Tripp at Silverton, Geraldine, and will return to Christchurch for Grand National Week. Mr and Mrs Frank 'Armstrong (Akitio), Mr and Mrs. H. B. Williams, and Mr and Mrs Eric Loisel (Tolaga Bay), Mr and Mrs P. Williams (Gisborne), Mr and Mrs Ralph Lowry (Taihape) will be visitors to Christchurch for Grand National Week. They will stay at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs Michael Connell (Wairoa) will arrive in Christchurch next Wednesday, and will be the guests; of' Mr and Mrs Rossmore Cracroft Wilson, Riccarton. Mrs I. M. Freeman (Cashel street) has returned to Christchurch from' - Auckland. Miss Helen Packer has returned to her home in Victoria street, after being for two weeks a patient in Lewisham private hospital. Mrs T. B. Strong (Forfar street) and her son, Mr J. Strong, will leave on Monday for a visit to England. Mrs Peter Mackenzie, who has been paying a short visit to Christchurch, will leave for her home, Walter Peak Station, Lake Wakatipu, to-day. Mr and Mrs E. Rivers (Riccarton) will leave for Wellington on Tuesday night to join the Rangitiki for England. Miss Kathleen Nelson' (Karori, Wellington) is visiting Mrs H. E. Perry, Norman’s road. Mr and Mrs John Elworthy (Richmond Hill, Sumner) are visiting Mr and Mrs A. S. Elworthy, Holme Station, Timaru. Miss Kathleen Newton (Andover street) and Miss Una McCracken (Hangiora) are the guests of Mrs R. L. Wigley, Timaru, for the Hunt Club gaieties. Her daughter, Miss Marjorie O’Malley, will remain in Auckland until October. , Mr and Mrs J. Chadraba, with their daughter, have arrived in Auckland from Tunisia, where they have lived for nine years. Mr Chadraba was in charge of an electric sub-station 12 miles from Tunis. They intend to settle in New Zealand and are at present staying with Mrs Chadraba’s parents, Mr and Mrs H. B, Dobbie, Epsom. Mr and Mrs R. G. Hudson, Mr and Mrs G. R. Hudson, Mrs Arthur Barnett, Mr and, Mrs Vivian Jacobs (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs P. C. Mills (Invercargill) will be southern visitors to Christchurch for Grand National Week. A meeting is being called by the Fendalton Red Cross Sub-Centre at St. Barnabas’, Schoolroom on Tuesday next, July 25, at 3 o’clock, to organise V.A.D. workers to be prepared in case of national emergency. The Duke and Duchess of Kent were entertained last month at a farewell party given by the Overseas League in Lopdon, where several Australians and New Zealanders were present. They were welcomed by Lord Goschen, chairman of the league, and the Duchess of Kent was presented with a basket of New Zealand and Australian fruit and a bottle of Australian wine by Miss Cecilia Keating (Greymouth). Two city school teachers, Miss M. S. Smith (Phillipstown) and Miss E. Hutt (Wharenui), have been granted leave of absence pending the completion of arrangements by the Education Department for exchange with other teachers overseas. Miss Smith will exchange with a teacher in the Newport Education Service, Monmouth. Miss Hjutt will exchange with a teacher from Birmingham. The leave of absence will be operative from towards the end of the year. At a meeting of the Parents’ National Educational Union held yesterday, Miss M. G. Havelaar, speaking on the National Council of Women, said that the Christchurch branch four years ago had drawn the attention of the City Council to the seriousness of the housing problem in the city. As a result 50 houses for old age pensioners had been built by the City Council, and for these 50 houses there had been 500 applicants. Twenty of the houses—those for married pensioners—would be ready for occupation in •about 10 days. Miss Havelaar said. Before the golf ball at Rakaia Dr. and Mrs E.
