MODERATE LOCAL TURNOVER PRICES SHOW FIRMING TENDENCY ♦ Turnover on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday was moderate* Prices generally showed a firming tendency. New Zealand Government 4 per cent, stock, due 1940*43, was firmer with business at £99 ss, end further buyers at £99 failed to attract sellers,’

National Bank of New Zealand firmed to dealings at 45s 3d, closing quotations 45s buyers, 45s 9d sellers. Geldsbrough, Mort were firm, with buyers at 28s 6d, sellers at 29s Id. Kaiapoi Woollens (17s paid) moved up to business at 12s, and further buyers at 11s lOd failed to attract sellers. British Tobacco remained unaltered, with sellers and business at 525, buyers at sls 6d. Broken Hill Proprietary eased to 69s 4d, closing quotations 60s buyers, 09s 3d sellers. The contributing were fractionally firmer, with dealings at 03s and 63s 2d, market Closing 62s 9d buyers, 63s 3d sellers. Taranaki Oilfields remained unaltered at 6s 6d, closing quotations 6s 4d buyers, 6s 7d sellers. Woolworths. Ltd., were firm, with sellers and business at 245, buyers at 23s lid. Mount Morgan eased to 10s 5Jd, closing 10s 4d buyers, 10s 6d sellers. Now River were firm, with business at 9id, and closed stronger with buyers at lOd, sellers at lid. Among the unlisted stocks, R.XJ.R.
