NO PROGRESS IN MOSCOW
TO THE EDITOR OT THE PRESS. ' Sir, —The above heading to your second leading article to-day must cause sighs of relief from all true British patriots, and especially from those who still profess any belief in God. You suggest that it would be quite right for the “democratic"-British people to ignore the clearly expressed wishes of the Baltic States and to force guarantees upon them against their will. You say that the Soviet Government has long since ceased to regard itself as the spearhead of world revolution. One can only wonder what secret sources of information lead you to this conclusion. _ As recently as the May Day celebrations, the Russian leaders declared the world revolution to be their chief aim More recently still (in June) Moscow official broadcasts were declaring the Soviet’s “inflexible- will’ to use all the achievements of capitalism “for the destruction of European civilisation.” Stalin, at the end of May, spoke of “war-mongers who would embroil us with Germany and use US to pull the chestnut out of the fire for them.”. - , ‘ The Soviet leaders have made it perfectly plain that, if they condescend to any sort of agreement with Britain it will be purely for their own ends and for the promotion of the world revolution. I hope and believe that the prayers of millions of Christians will avert the disaster of an alliance of Britain with the militant atheist government of the Soviet Republics.—Yours. etC ” G. F. SEWARD. Lincoln, July 14, 1939.
