Mrs Bede Loughnan (Fendaltou), who has been spending five weeks at Tekapo, has returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs B. Murray (Braemar, Mackenzie Country) are visiting Dunedin for the Winter Show. Miss Elworthy (“Pareora Cottage,” Timaru) returned yesterday from a visit to Mrs A. Elworthy, Craigmore. Mrs and Miss Compton (Wellington), who were staying with Mrs A. Fleming (Timaru), have returned north Dr. Elizabeth Gunn (Wellington), Director of School Hygiene, is visiting Christchurch for a few days. The weekly euchre social held by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union in the Halswell Hall was well attended. Prize-winners were Mesdames H. Kolkman and J. Dick, Messrs F. Chapman and E. Lunt. Mrs Lindsay Horrocks, who was ; the guest of Mrs James Wilson (Timaru), has returned to Auckland. Mrs Guthrie Moore (Wellington) expects to return to New Zealand • in March, 1940. In company with 1 Mrs Tully (Wellington), she recently spent a month at Bournemouth. Returning from Lulworth ’ Cove, where the best lobsters are caught, they passed the cottage where Lawrence of Arabia lived. This cottage has been presented by Lawrence’s brother to the National : Council for charitable purposes, and is open for inspection on certain days. They also visited the house , whore Thomas Hardy wrote “Tess of • the d’Urbervilles.” The fourth annual dinner of the ’ Timaru Technical High School Old ■ Students’ Association was held in : the Stafford Tearooms, Timaru. The ! principal (Mr F. L. N. Tuck) and 1 Mrs Tuck, and the chairman of the board of managers (Mr P. R. Talbot) and Mrs Talbot were guests of the association. Others present included members of the staff and ' school prefects, and the pi csident ; of the association (Mr B, T. Cox). !
