Nevertheless that had been an indirect ri'sult, though in many cases the Jull : 100 per cent, restriction had caused, some embarrassment to manufacturers.; He wits conlident that manufacturers: need not be unduly alarmed. They , had done their utmost to meet the Government's wishes by stepping up production to meet the shortage caused bv import rf'strietions, and it was un-, thinkable that the Government would not, lake adequate steps at the earliest: opportunity to protect New Zealand , manufacturing industries from the unfair position they would be placed in bv a reversion to the system of tinrestricted importation of finished goods.
