CURRENT NOTES

Mr and Mrs F. W. Rowley (Kclburn, Wellington) have taken Mr H. S. Richards’s house in Allister avenue, Merivale, during the latter’s absence in England. Miss Marjorie Rowley is attending Canterbury College.

Mrs Maurice Osborne and family (Knowles street) have returned from Lcithficld Beach, where they spent the school holidays.

Mr and Mrs H. W. Pearce (Avonside, Christchurch) arc staying for a few days at the Federal Hotel before their departure for the North Island, where they will make their home.

Miss Isabel Stone (“Crantara,” Scargill) has left for Wellington, where she will spend several months. Mr and Mrs Philip Greenwood (Cashmere Hills), who have been touring the West Coast, will return to Christchurch to-day.

Mr and Mrs Dhondi (Bombay), who have been visiting the West Coast, will arrive to-day in Christchurch, where they will spend a few days before leaving for Sydney. They will spend a month in Australia before returning to Bombay, where Mr Dhondi practises as a lawyer.

Mrs F. MeConvillc and Miss Ngaire MeConvillc (Clifton) are visiting Greymouth for the wedding of Mrs McConville’s niece, which will take place to-day. Miss Amy Kane (Wellington), Dominion president of Women s Institutes, who has been paying a short visit to Greymouth, returned to Wellington by aeroplane yesterday. Miss Isobel Forrest has returned to her home at Timaru after spending a fortnight’s holiday with Miss Betty Blair, Banks avenue.

Miss My roll Jefcoate (Cambridge terrace) will leave Wellington today by the Rernuera for a health trip to England and Scotland. Mr and Mrs A. W. Wells (Masonic Hotel) have returned home after a holiday visit to Dunedin and Timaru.

Mr and Mrs L. Sisson (Papanui road), who have been spending a short holiday at the Franz Josef glacier, returned home yesterday.

Miss Lorna Lambie (Ashburton) is the guest of Mrs G. H. Ussher, Timaru.

Miss Greta Wright (Oamaru), who was the guest of Mrs J. Temple (Highficld), returned south yesterday. Mr and Mrs E. Rutherford, who wore staying with Mrs T, R. Rhodes (Hadlow Grange) for the races, have returned to North Canterbury. Miss Cara Pinckney (Southland), who has been visiting the North Island, is staying with Dr. W. H. Unwin, Timaru.

Mr and Mrs G. Murray (Glcnrnorc, Mackenzie Country), who were the guests of Mrs Harold Elworthy (Craigmore) for the races, have returned home.

Miss Florence Clissold (Timaru) has returned from a visit to the North Island.

The New Zealand committee of the Pan-Pacific Women’s Association lias received many interesting letters from women living in Pacific countries, who will he delegates to the international conference of the association to bo held in Wellington next year. Mrs Induk Pak, writing from’.Seoul, Korea, gives information about the Sunnydalc rural project, of which she was the originator. “To the young people,” she says “it is going to be a learning place, to the children, a playground, and to the old. a resting place.” In conjunction with the project, there is a “C.C.C.,” or Cow Co-operative Company. The farmers use cows and oxen as beasts of burden as well as for ploughing. The poorer farmers cannot afford to buy even one cow, so the C.C.C. buys them and rents them on reasonable terms to the needy families.

Miss Elhnc Tosswill, principal of the School of Art in Icing, is in Grey mouth at present arid will enrol pupils for lessons in cake icing or in savoury making. Miss Tosswill is in Greyinouth for a limited period only, and prospective pupils should write immediately to 12J Cashel stiect, Christchurch, or to Revingtons Hotel, Creymoulii.
