PRISON SENTENCE IMPOSED

ACCLSKDLS BAD UEC OKI)

A background of poverty and an inclination to transgress through drink were pleaded by Mr J. K. Moloney on behalf of Eric Alfred Wahrlieh, who appeared in tiie Supreme Court before Mr Justice Nurthcroft yesterday for sentence on a charge of breaking, entering. and theft. He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Wahrlieh was aged 29, was married, and had two children, said Mr Moloney. His record was not a good one. His whole life had been lived against a background of poverty, and he had fallen "by the wayside many times through drink. He had been in custody lor three months, and there appeared to be something in his makeup which made it easy tor him to fall. His Honour said that the offence was carried out against a comparatively poor man, and was apparently deliberate.
