JUDGMENT SUMMONS A. E. Hawkings was ordered to pay the New Zealand Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Related Trades Industrial Union £4 Is forthwith, in default of four days’ imprisonment, the issue of the warrant to be suspended on the payment of 2s 6d a week. CLAIM FOR HIRE OF COW
Richard Allan Palmer, a farmer, of Annat (Mr W. R. Olliver) claimed £2 12s from J. Poultney, as . ,e balance due for the hire of a cow. The plaintiff said he had hired a cow to the defendant at an agreed rate of 8s a week, and that the hire continued for nine weeks. The defendant had paid only £l. The defendant claimed that the cow had been hired at a specified sum of £2 and he had paid the balance of £1 into Court. The Magistrate held that the plaintiff was entitled to more than the defendant had paid, and gave judgment for £2 and costs. CLAIM FAILS A claim for £6 15s was made by the New Zealand Coffee and Spice Company Ltd. (Mr R. Twyneham), against the Christchurch Tramway Board (Mr J. D. Hutchison). The plaintiff alleged that a car driven by one of its employees had been damaged by a collision with a tram, by the fault of the motorman. The Magistrate gave judgment for the defendant. .
