EDUCATIONAL OFFICER RESIGNS
ASHBURTON SWIMMING CENTRE
Mr W. Hunter, who will leave at the end of the week to take a position at New Brighton, tendered his resignation as educational officer of the Ashburton Swimming Centre at a meeting of the centre last evening The resignation was accepted with regret, and appreciation expressed of Mr Hunter’s services during the last four years. For members of the centre the president (Mr John Lane) presented Mr Hunter with a fountain pen. Mr N. S. Batchelor, of Christchurch, resigned his position as the centre’s representative on the New Zealand council, and Mr Hunter was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr Batchelor was thanked for his services. Commenting that the learn-to-swim campaign earlier this year had had a very beneficial effect in schools in the Ashburton County, Mr Hunter reported that 823 association certificates and 320 local certificates had been issued during the season. More than 30 schools had prepared pupils for the certificates.
It was stated that the benefit of the campaign would -Iso be felt by clubs in the coming season,
