MOTOR RALLY AT RANGIORA
* SPORTS AFTERNOON FOR MORRIS OWNERS More than 500 Morris cars carrying approximately 2000 people assembled in the Rangiora domain on Saturday for the first of a series of annual Morris car rallies, arranged by Dominion Motors, Ltd., the local agents for the .cars. The cars were of all ages and came from places as far from Christchurch as Tlmaru, and Bruce Say in South Westland. Most of them started for the rally from Cranmer square and proceeded to Rangiora in an unbroken procession which was Watched by many people on the route. At Rangiora, the drivers and their passengers were welcomed by the Mayor, Mr C. W. Tyler, and by Mr J. A, Redpath, a director of Dominion Motors, Ltd., and Mr J. H. Mortiock, manager for the firm in Christchurch. Sports events and competitions, for which handsome primes were offered, at- : traded large entries and caused a great ; deal of amusement. Results were as follows: — Tandem towing; G. F. Bray and R. Bray. Musical chairs: J. F. Fowler and : Miss D. Baker, and E. and M. Sutton. Balloon bursting; S. Nlcholls. Quick getaway: Mrs McKendry and L. Johns. Men’s open driving event; E. Sutton. Women’s , open driving event: Mrs R. Brown. Staff sack race for men: N. Morris. Staff race for women: Miss P. Striding. Raffle for electric cleaner: Miss A. Richardson. Best , kept 8 h.p. Morris (Assembly Cup and 1 miniature): A. Whittington. Best kept 10 h.p. (Assembly Cup and miniature); R. Dixon. Best kept 12 h.p. (B.A.L.M. Cup and miniature): H. R. Smith. Best kept car, open class (Dominion Motors, Ltd., Cup and miniature): C. Hayward. Best kept oldest car (tyre from A. S. Paterson and Co.): R. Martin. Car from longest distance (Lucas battery): A. R. Anderson (Bruce Bay). Zero hour competition; R. Thomson, 1
