FRUIT GROWERS’ ASSOCIATION

♦ TRADING CONCERN POSSIBLE STATEMENT AT ANNUAL MEETING That the Christchurch Tomato and Stone Fruit Growers’ Association might be made a trading concern was mentioned by the president, Mr G. E. Billson, at the annual meeting, of the association on Saturday night. Mr Billson said it was quite possible the association might be made a trading concern if the incoming committee had such an idea in view. Earlier in the meeting it was stated that, as with other similar bodies, the association had been made the Tomato and Stone Fruit i Growers’ Association, Ltd., so that it cpuld be made a trading concern. Other associations in the Dominion had been trading for several years. The association also considered the revision of its rules. Several members stated that the rules were out of date, and while some of therri were observed others were neglected. One member said that a lot of friction in the association had been caused because the rules were not up to standard. Mr Billson said a special committee had considered the association’s rules last year, but it had been found impossible to deal with them.

Mr C. E. Pope said the rules were founded on a set of model rules sent out by the federation. If the association was considering a revision of the rules, he thought they might Inform the federation that its model rules were obsolete. After further discussion it was decided to hold the matter over till the next meeting.

The annual report and balance-sheet, which showed a loss of £2B 16s 8d on the year’s working, were adopted.

The election of officers resulted -as follows:—President, Mr C. E. Pope, vice-presidents. Messrs A. Bloxhflm and F. C. Williams; committee, Messrs E. R. Adcock, H. H. Reaby, F. W. Zimmerman, D. H. Crooks, B. J. Pegley, F. Knipe; auditor, Mr J. Mawson Stewart. The appointment' of a secretary was left, to the .incoming committee.
