The Hon. P. C. Webb (Minister for Labour and, for Mines) returned to Wellington by the steamer express last night. He was accompanied by Mr A. J. Ridler, head of the Employment Promotion branch of the Labour Department, and Mr S. Y. Jones (private secretary). Mr Webb will probably return to Christchurch next week.

Viscount Runciman was entertained at morning tea yesterday by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) and all Ministers of the Crown in Wellington. The reception was private and informal. Mr W R. Jamieson, who has been district manager of the Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary, Ltd., for the last four years, has been promoted to a similar position in Wellington, and will take over his new duties on May 1.

Captain E. Newman arrived in Christchurch from the North Island yesterday morning.

Major-General N. G. Cameron, Colonel of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, who has spent a few days in Christchurch, will leave this evening for Wellington.

Group Captain L. M, Isitt, Air Member for Personnel, arrived in Christchurch by the steamer express from Wellington yesterday morning, and later carried out a passmg-out inspection of officers at the Flying Training School at Wigram.

V Mr R. C. Neville was welcomed as the delegate of the Sumner-Redcliffs Rowing Club at the meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Association last night.

The loss suffered by the Canterbury Justices of the Peace Association in the deaths of Mrs A. I. Fraer and of Mr R. T. Tosswill was referred to by the president (Mr H. F. Herbert) at a meeting of the executive of the association. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried.

Mr Claude Davies will leave Christchurch for the north to-night to adjudicate at the Napier competitions.
