SOCKBURN RAILWAY CROSSING
TO THE EDITOR OP THB PRESS Sir, —The Sockburn railway crossing has rather an evil reputation for accidents; it is still a dangerous crossing. About a month ago one set of rails was lifted and relaid. The asphalt between the rails was, of course, taken out. It was left in that state nearly
a week, then the old asphalt was put back in a very unworkmanlike manner, leaving the rails a good two inches higher than the filling between. The job has never been finished, and all traffic suffers two beautiful jolts on crossing. The poor old cyclist gets it worst. How his front axle stands it beats me.—Yours, etc., S. JAMES. March 10, 1939.
