LONDON, April 1
Cambridge won the boat race by four lengths in 19 minutes three seconds.
Conditions were perfect except for a haze.
Oxford won the toss and started on the Middlesex side because there was a likelihood of there being popply water. . ' Cambridge followed Lovelock s tiack racing methods, ahd trained easily in contradistinction to Oxford’s strenuousness, and reserved its full endeavour for the actual race.
Cambridge started better. Oxford’s legwork and steering were defective and the crew stiff and overtrained. Cambridge, rowing like a machine, finished as fresh as new paint, but Oxford was “all out.” Since the first r&ce was held in 1829 Cambridge has won 48 times and Oxford 42. Oxford has won only three times since the war. Results for the last 10 years have been
