DOG TRIALS AT GERALDINE
RESULTS OF JUDGING ON SATURDAY

GERALDINE, April 1
The Geraldine Collie Dog Club's annual trials were concluded at Peel Forest today before a large attendance of farmers.
An energetic committee, with Mr J, Acland as president, and Mr T. J, Paterson as secretary, was responsible for the smooth running of the trials.
The judge of the hill events was Mr W, Mackenzie (Hakataramea). and the judge of the driving competitions was Mr J. Parsons (Hakataramea). Results were as follows: —i
Open Long Pull—J. Mcßae’s Dick (54 points) 1. W. F. Ross’s Toby (52 points) 2, J. A. Johnston’s Julie (49 points) 3, J. C. Evans’s Gyp (48 points) 4. Dick cast to the right, going out well on a good line, and very fast. He made a good head. He lifted well and pulled well on a good line. He steadied the sheep and completed in Smin 38sec. Toby cast to the right on a good line and very fast, He made a fair head and pulled steadily on a good line, but drifted a little to the left on the flat. He recovered and completed in 7min 40sec. Julie cast to the right and was redirected. and stopped slightly before heading. Pulling nicely, she entered the ring in good style. She held well and completed In Smin Bsee. Gyp cast to the right on a fair line, making a good head, but swinging about rather much in the pull. He approached the ringon- a good line and steadied the sheep. He completed in 9min 27sec. District Malden—J. A. Johnston’s Julie (49 points) 1. J. C. Evans’s Gyp (48 points* 2, S. Gibson’s Coil (44 points) 3, Short Pull and Yard—L, P. Mackenzie’s Hemp (52 points) 1. B. M. Wilson’s Hope (48 points) 2. W. F. Ross’s Storm (46 points) 3. Hemp cast to the left, making a good head in fast time. He pulled In a good Una and was very firm. He yarded in 7min 54sec, Hope cast.to the right but stopped a little before making a good head. He lifted well but pulled rather fast. He yarded in Smin 51sec. Storm made a cast to the right and headed rather high, but lifted nicely. He let the shCep drift to the left when. pulling. The dog was slightly out of position when yarding. Time, Smin 27sec.
Open Driving Competition—R. J. D. Innes’s Queen (57 points) I, R. M. Wilson’s Fly (551 • points) 2, J. A. Brown’s Kep (55 points) 3. Competition—G. Burrows’s Bus*(47 points) 1, S. Ashby’s Flo (45 points) 2. D. Bates’s King (30J points) 3. Driving Competition Sweepstake—J’. C. Evans’s Pride (51 points) 1, E. • McLennan’a Moss (60i points) ?. B. J. D. Innes’s Sir Richard (50 points) 3. Local Malden Huntaway—J. C. Evans’s Coil (44 points) 1, J. C. Evans’s Lance (42 points) 2, P. Evans’s Digger (41 points) 3. Coil did fair work on a fair line through the first and second poles, but was rather wide off the sheep. He did better work approaching the third poles to complete fairly well in 7min 49sec- Lance was rather rash going through the first pole? but made *3 good Une through the’second poles. The dog was Inclined to swing about too much. He completed in 6mln lOsee. Digger worked fairly well through the first poles b.ut allowed the sheep too high at the second poles. He hunted in better style approaching the third poles to complete in 9min. Competitions during the afternoon resulted: —Chain stepping, Mr A. McLeod (correct distance <2l yards Ift 61n) hidden treasure, David Turton Pringle; cake, Mr J. C. Evans.
