PHOTO-ENGRAVERS' AWARD
HOURS OF WORK AND WAGES
A 40-hour week, to be worked on five days, is provided for in the award issued by the Court of Arbitration for photo-engravers. Work may be performed in newspaper offices, other than weekly on any six days of the week as may be convenient to the employer. In addition to eight public holidays, one week’s vacation on full pay is to be granted each year. The following minimum weekly rates of wages have been agreed on:— Improvers, £3 17s 6d; journeymen—-printers,-mounters, strippers, provers, and routers. £5 10s, line etchers and engravers £5 15s, operators and halftone'etchers £6, part-time colour operators £6 10s, colour operators £7; pboto-litho-plate makers £5 15s, operators £6, colour separators £7 10s, Every worker who is regularly employed on night shift shall receive an extra allowance equal to 10 per cent, of his wages, with a maximum of 10s a week for adults and 5s for juniors. So far as it relates to wages, the gward. is deemed to have come into force ■ during the first working week on or after November 6, 1938.
