SWIMMING

CULVERDEN SCHOOL SPORTS The annual swimming sports of the Culverden School, held in the school baths, attracted a large number of visitors and parents. Teams from the Hanmer, Waiau, and Culverden Schools competed for the Fisher Cup. The Ingram and Hartnell Cups for the champion girl and boy were competed for at the same time. Results of school championship events were:— Length Freestyle—Boys: P. Hadley 1, M. Fitzgibbon 2; girls: Shirley Maw 1. Collen Grice 2, Jessie Baker 3. . Length Breaststroke —Boys: P. Hadley 1, M. Fitzgibbon 2. . _ 25 Yards Breaststroke—Girls: Shirley Maw 1, I. Fleming 2, Collen Grice 3. 25 Yards Breaststroke— Boys; M. Fitzgibbon 1, P. Hadley 2. 25 Yards Backstroke—Girls; Collen Grice 1, Shirley Maw 2. Jessie Baker 3 ' Long Plunge—Boys: P. Hadley 1, M. Fitzgibbon 2. Long Plunge—Girls: Jessie Baker 1, Shirley Maw 2. Springboard Dive —Boys; M. Fitzgibbon 1, P. Hadley 2. Springboard Dive —Girls; Shirley Maw 1, Collen Grice 2. I. Fleming 3. Cup points were as follows: —Boys: P. Hadley 13, 1; M. Fitzgibbon 12, 2. Girls: Shirley Maw 13, 1; Colleen Grice 8, 2; Jessie Baker 5, 3; I. FlemHanmer and Waiau teams also competed for two trophies. Hanmer gaining 31 points and Waiau 17 points. Mrs P- Hadley and Mrs Ingram presented the cups won at the meeting*
