RODEO AT NORTH BEACH

INTERESTING PROGRAMME FOR SATURDAY

Escorted by 24 uniformed horsewomen, and accompanied also by an old-time express waggon conveying visitors and others to the grounds, an old Cobb and Company’s stage coach will leave the Central New Brighton Hotel at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday for the rodeo and barbacue to be held at the North Beach School grounds. The procession will arrive there about 2 p.m., for the official opening by the Mayor of New Brighton (Mr E. L. Smith). Among the many attractions on the grounds will be whippet racing on the flat and over hurdles, Highland pipe band and dancing, women’s cavalry squad in exercises, and.a fencing duel in costume by members of the fencing club. A much-discussed and long-, awaited milking contest between Mr W. J. Walter and Mr W. P. Spencer, has at last been arranged, and will be held on the grounds. A party of Tuahiwi Maoris will roast a bullock during the day, and will also give a concert in the evening. There will also be many other attractions.
