AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. STUDENTS
DEBATING TOURS TO BE EXCHANGED ARRANGEMENTS FOR CLOSER CO-OPERATION (j?KXSa association tilxgxam.) WELLINGTON, March 13. Negotiations have been proceeding for closer co-operation between university students of Australia and New Zealand. The New Zealand University Students’ Association has received advice that the Australian National Union of Students has adopted a proposal by which a New Zealand university debating and lecturing team will tour Australia this year, and an Australian team will make a return visit in 1940. The teams will consist of two students. The New Zealand team will leave for Sydney about the middle of June and return six weeks later. Visits will be paid to five universities—Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Hobart—to Canberra and several country cities. The team will debate with university and other teams and will also lecture on New Zealand and aspects of New Zealand life. The members of the team will also lead informal discussions at tbe various universities. They will also act as the New Zealand University Students’ Association’s representatives in Australia, and will discuss further schemes for co-operation with Australian universities. There are prospects of visits by sporting teams and also travel tours by student parties, but so far no definite decisions have been made.
