EXPORT OF ONIONS

ADVICE TO MARSHLAND GROWERS Information that only onions of the best quality could be exported, but that there would be no restrictions as to quantity, was given to a meeting of 80 Marshland onion growers by Mr R ‘. ?•. Tennent, director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, Dr. E. Marsden, secretary to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and other speakers yesterday. The meeting was called by two Marshland growers, Messrs D. Goode and J. Blackburn, who are members of the Onion Advisory Committee, who recently paid a visit to onion growers in the Pukekoh* district. Their visit was reciprocated yesterday by Messrs Bilkie and McMeekan, of. Pukekche, who are also members of the Advisory Committee. Besides Mr Tennent and Dr. Marsden, the other speakers at the meeting were Messrs Bilkie and McMeekan, Mr Holmes, of the Department of Agriculture, Wellington. Mr R. McGillivray, district superintendent of the Fields Division qf the department, and Mr Robinson, representative of the onion merchants in, Wellington. Before .the meeting an inspection was made of the 15 onion plots of the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs at the Marshland School, and the party also visited the experimental plots of the Department qf Agriculture. The Onion Growers’ Committee, Dr. Marsden, Mr Tennent, and Mr R- McGillivray, held a conference during the day. ■
