Reminders Nominations for the Waimate Racing Club's annual meeting will close at 8 p.m. to-day., f; Nominations for the Oamaru Jockey Club’s autumn meeting-will close at 8 p.m. to-morrow. Solid Breeding Rabble, winner of the Peninsula Cup on Saturday, was bred by his owner, Mr E. W. Spencer. The dam, Jael, was bred by Mr George Gould, and sold by him to Mr Spencer, who won a few races with her at West Coast meetings, and retired her to the stud as a six-year-old. Rabble being her first production. Jael is by Shambles from Judith, by Martian, and Rabbi is by Paladin from Rachel, by Kilbroney from Rebekah, by Bezonian from Snowstell, by Clanranald from Safeguard, by Maxim, so there is some sound breeding on both sides of Rabble’s lineage. Rabble is only a four-year-old, and as he has not had a strenuous career to date, he may develop into a high-class handicap horse next season. Likely Hurdler Another of Rabbi’s progeny in Jewish Lad made a bold attempt to win the high-weight event on Saturday. He is later to be raced over hurdles, and as he has shown his ability, as a jumper, he is likely to be useful during the winter. He is one of D. Cotton’S team. For Trentham Riccarton stables will once again be well represented .at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting this month, the following being included in the list of nominations: Night, Not Out, Moorsotis, Scold, Master Hotspur. Royal , Chief, Haughty Winner, Trench Fight, Dictate. Great Plight, Wild Talk, Waka. Spartan, Density, Lady Leigh, Counterblast. Cocksure, Rebellion, Prudent Prince. Royal Huntress, Capricious, and Settlement. Attracted Attention Settlement’s win on Saturday at Motukarara was very impressive. This Night Raid gelding has been making gradual improvement since havmg a lengthy spell earlier in the season, and has furnished into a solid four-year-old with every prospect of holding his own when elevated to open company. Consistent Filly Great Plight is one of the few of Magnus’s progeny racing, and her good form has suggested that the loss of the Stonyhurst horse is more serious than at one time thought. Great Flight has not run a bad race since she opened her career, and her four wins have all indicated stamina as well as speed. Stayed On Nolana made her reappearance on Saturday after a spell after an operation for throat trouble, and ran whatwas probably her best race, especially for staying on. In many of her previous efforts she could always be depended to show plenty of pace, but stopped badly after .about five furlongs, but on Saturday she completed her six furlongs task, in a resolute manner, and had Great Flight doing her best to head her off. Nolana is another of Night Raid’s breed from a Sunny Lake mare, and although now in her sixth year, she . may collect a winning stake before the end of the, season. Staying at Home At last month’s meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club, an application by the Reefton Jockey Club to hold its Easter programme at Riccarton aext month was granted subject to the approval of the Minister for Internal Affairs. Although no trouble was anticipated in getting the necessary permit, it is understood that on the advice of the Racing Conference, the neeting will be held on-the club’s own :ourse at Reefton. • • \ Strong Team Royal Chief Is tentatively booked to go to Trentham, provided he carries an in Ms preparation as at present. He has been nominated for the rhompsoh Handicap on the first day md the Autumn Handicap, on the second day, and provided he is not averburdened he will at least contest the Thompson Handicap. He will be accompanied ion the trip .by
ment, Lady Leigh, and Moorsqtis, and all .of these may- go .on to Awapuni provided they, race satisfactorily . at Trentham. ’ Moorsotis is to fulfil his engagement in the North Island Challenge Stakes at Trentham, and it will be interesting to see how he fares against the North Island’s best juveniles. He indicated by his two successes to date that staying was his strong point, and over seven furlongs at Trentham he should be in evidence at the- right end.
