ARCHITECTURAL WORK
GOVERNMENT AND LOCAI* BODIES
DECISION AT CONFERENCE OF N.Z. INSTITUTE
(PSESS ASSOCIATION TEUGBAH.) DUNEDIN, February 18. A decision, to approach the Government and local bodies with ' a view to arranging that their architectural work should be carried out by registered architects in private practice, was made at the annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Architects to-day, when three remits on the subject, two from Canterbury and one from Auckland, were brought forward for discussion.
It was stated by Mr G. D. Griffiths, who moved the first of Can- - terbury’s remits, that the proposal was not new, but that it was considered that they should “battle on” in an endeavour to obtain some satisfaction. The three remits were discussed at the same time, being finally embodied in one resolution, which was carried as follows:- _ “That the council take immediate steps to approach the Government and local bodies in regard to architectural work, with a view 'to arranging that such work be carried, out by registered architects in private practice; and that when circumstances warrant *it all major work be competed for by competition by registered members of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, under the New Zealand Institute- of Architects’ regulations governing architectural competitions.”
