FURNITURE WORKERS’ CONGRESS

The biennial congress of the New Zealand. Furniture Trades Industrial Association of Workers is being held in Christchurch this week. Delegates are present from Auckland, Wanganui, Wellington, Timaru, Greymouth, .Dunedin, and Christchurch. Mr D. R. Kennedy (president) is presiding, and Mr Dixon, of Auckland, is the vice-chair-man.

The Mayor (Mr R. M. Maciarlanv i welcomed the delegates and said lie. hoped they would have a pleasant time jn the city and that they would be able to visit some' of the beauty spots of the district. The Hon. J. A. McCullough, M.L.C., also extended a welcome. '

Various matters affecting rules of the association were discussed yesterday afternoon, and the congress will meet again this morning.
