LYTTELTON NEWS

SWIMMING BATH DESIRED

A proposal made recently that Lyttelton should have a swimming bath was considered at a meeting of representatives of the Lyttelton swimming clubs, the playground committee, and the schools last evening. A 25-yards bath was suggested, but the swimming club representatives advocated a standard 33 1-3 yards bath. The site suggested is on the old gaol grounds, and it is proposed to supply the bath with water pumped from the harbour. After a discussion on the probable cost of the bath, it was agreed that, even with Government assistance, about £9OO would have to be raised locally. The meeting finally decided to request the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) to call a public meeting at an early date. Grass Fire The Lyttelton Fire Brigade was called out at 9.10 last evening to a small grass fire on the bank below Simeon quay. The outbreak was quickly extinguished.
