MEETING OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS
REPORTS OF RECTOR AND LADY PRINCIPAL
An increase of 13 in the senior school was reported to the Waitaki High School Board of Governors by the headmaster of the school (Mr Frank Milner) at a meeting of the board on Monday. So far, the report stated, the enrolment for the school was 471. The senior school was 344. the junior school 127, and the number of boarders stood at 154. The cadet corps of the school had been advised that the school hadfewon the Islington Cup and the Victory Shield for service shooting and “The Weekly Press” Shield for miniature rifle shooting. Mr Milner’s report went on to say that the time-table for this year made ample provision for music appreciation, singing, manual work, first-aid and hygiene, and the pursuit of individual hobbies. In her report to the board the headmistress of the Waitaki Girls’ High School (Miss J. B. Wilson) said that the number in the senior school was about 300. the junior school 115, and there were 55 boarders. The number of entrants from North Otago country schools was less than usual because of the considerable decrease in the number of girls in Form II in the country schools. The report said that Miss I. M. Allan, MA., was acting in relieving capacity in place of Miss N. M. Thomson, MA... who was at present studying in Sydney. Miss P. M. P. Edwards, MA., was additional relieving mistress.The report stated that 80 per cent, of the candidates from the school for the university entrance and school certificate examinations had passed.

PORT OF OAMARU
OAMARU, February 14. The Union Company’s intercolonial freighter Karetu, from Newcastle, Port Stephen, Port Kembla, and Sydney, for Bluff, Dunedin. Oamaru. and Lyttelton, is expected at this port about Friday, February 17. The Wainui will load on Wednesday February 22, for Wellington, Gisborne, and Napier, via ports. The Waipahl loads for Wellington, Nelson and New Plymouth, via Timaru, Bluff, and Lyttelton, to-morrow. The Waipiata, from Auckland, will load on Saturday, March 4, for Wellington and Auckland, via ports. The Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, as agents for the New Zealand Shipping Company, advises that the s.s. Kent has been allotted to load at Oamaru about March 6 refrigerated and general,, cargo for London.
