MONSTER BRIDGE PARTY

EUROPEAN REFUGEES* FUND A RECORD SUCCESS Christchurch is famed for its skill in raising money by bridge and mahjong parties, but of all such efforts in the past none was more successful than that held last night in the Winter Garden in aid of the European Refugees’ Fund. A short time ago the Lord Mayor of London appealed for help for the unfortunate refugees who, in great numbers, are daily fleeing from Central Europe, and mayors throughout the Empire have rallied to

his aid. The money raised last night—and it was a considerable sum—will be handed to the Mayor of Christ-

church, Mr R. M. Macfarlane, to be forwarded to headquarters. Members of the organising committee, who have every right to be proud of the outstanding success of their work, were Mrs A. J. ‘Benzie (convener), Mes-
