CHINA
JAPANESE REFUSE TO STATE INTENTIONS
(Received December 27, 7.10 p.m.)
TOKYO, December 26,
The British Ambassador (Sir Robert Craigie) interviewed the Japanese Foreign Minister (Mr H. Arita) and urged a solution of the outstanding questions concerning British concessions in China.
The American Ambassador (Mr J. C. Grew) separately exchanged views with Mr Arita. It has been learned that Mr Arita refused to enlighten the Ambassadors respecting Japan’s proposals to abolish the extra-territorial rights of foreigners in China.
He declared that the cessation of hostilities was the best method of settling all problems; but this was rendered impossible of the granting of British and American credits to China.
