DEATH OF MEMBER OF BAND

♦ COLLAPSE WHILE MARCHING THROUGH STREETS [THE PRESS Special Service.) GERALDINE, December 23. A well-known Geraldine resident, Mr L. Bright, aged 58, collapsed and died from a heart seizure about 8.15 o’clock this evening at Geraldine. Mr Bright, corporal and drummer in the Geraldine District Band, was marching with the band, which was playing a march tune in the main street, when he collapsed. He was the oldest member of the band and was a former member of the Geraldine Volunteer Fire Brigade. At the recent provincial band contest at Temuka Mr Bright won the silver medal for the best drummer. He leaves a widow. Conductor C. J. Ashby told a representative of “The Press” this evening that the band would not go carolling until the New Year as a mark of respect to Mr Bright. The band would parade at Mr Bright’s funeral, he said. It was not known to-night whether an inquest would be necessary.
