ENID’S DREAM
Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Enid. She had been in bed, lying on her back for many months. It was Christmas Eve and Enid had gone to sleep wondering li Father Christmas would' give her the doll and a cradle that she had asked him for. Suddenly she was awakened by a faint tapping on the window.
Sitting up, she saw a little fairystanding on the window-sill. “Would you like to see the toys and things we are making for the crippled children?" asked the fairy. Of course Enid said, “Yes!” “Then come with me!” said the fairy. Enid seemed to float out or bed and the fairy took her across the garden to where an oak tree stood. The fairy tapped on the trunk and it opened, showing a little flight of steps down which they went. Enid found herself in a big room. There were fairies making dolls' cots and all kinds of wooden ’toys. One little elx had just finished making a lovely brown cradle ana a fairy was putting some pretty silk round the edges and another fairy was dressing a doll that was to go into the cradle. Then Enid awoke to find her mother bending over her. “Wake up, Enid, dear! It’s Christmas morning!” And there on the bed beside her was the lovely doll in the chadle which the fairy had just shown to her! —AVRIL MARY BARNET (aged 7), 50 Lonsdale street. New Brighton.
