PROSPECTS ON WEST COAST all roads in good order [THE PRESS Special Service.! GREYMOUTH, December 23. Road traffic on the West Coast promises to reach record proportions during the Christmas and New Year holidays, according to the number of inquiries received by the Greymouth branch of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) and the number of hotel bookings in all parts of the district. The various scenic resorts will be popular destinations for motorists from Auckland, Southland, and Canterbury, and the camping grounds at Victoria Park and the Omoto racecourse, both at Greymouth, are likely to be well patronised, particularly during the coming week-end. - After a prolonged spell of wet weather to-day was fine and warm, with brilliant sunshine. Prospects are that the holidays will be favoured with real • summer weather on the West Coast. In spite of, the recent rain, all the West Coast roads, according to the secretary of the Greymouth branch of the Automobile Association (Canterbury), are in good order for the heavy volume of traffic expected during the holiday season. Both routes to Christchurch, via the Lewis Pass and the Otira Gorge, were in excellent condition to-day, and no trouble should be experienced by motorists in negotiating them. The roads to South Westland and to Nelson, via Reefton and via the Westport coastal road, are also reported to be in good order.
