THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

TO THE EDITOB Or THE PBZSS Sir, —In a few days our festive season will again be with us. We shall see brother shake hands with brother, the children romp and play in all happiness, and a voice shall say as of yore, “Peace on earth, good will to all men.” Those of us who read will probably remember the words of Ebenezer Scrooge when he said in agony, “1 will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the past, the present, and the future. The spirit of all three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach. Oh, tell me I may sponge away the writing on this stone!” If Man only tried to keep the spirit of Christmas with him every day in his life, then the work of the great Teacher would be completed. Unfortunately, when the festive season is over he rolls back into the same .old groove, and the world becomes unhappy again. Let us, one and all, carry the thoughts and happiness, which permeate our beings on Christmas, with us always. Then shall there radiate throughout the whole world a steadying force, a peaceful, harmonious atmosphere. In conclusion, may I wish you and all readers a happy Christmas.—Yours, etc., A STUDENT OF TRUTH. Timaru, December 20. 1938.
