Mr and Mrs Rex Abernethy (Invercargill) are the guests of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Robinson, Fendalton, at their seaside house at Diamond Harbour.
Mr and Mrs Harold Greenwood and their two sons (Teviotdale, North Canterbury) intend to leaw in the middle of March for Australia, where they will spend several weeks before leaving about April 22 for a trip to England. Mr and Mrs lan Buchanan (Victoria Mansions) are spending a holiday at Picton. Miss Kathleen Hoare (Kilmore street west), who has been visiting Mrs Percy Hall, the Haldons, Seddon, returned home yesterday. Miss Margaret Young (Cashmere) will spend the holidays at Picton with Mr and Mrs R. Austen Young, who have taken a house there for a few weeks.
Miss Joan Shennan (Khandallah, Wellington) will be the guest of Miss Milla Kempthorne, St. Albans, for the New Year.
Miss Rhona Thomas (Somerfield) will leave to-day for Tirnaru and Oamaru, where she will spend Christmas.
Miss Mae Scofield, whose marriage will take place soon, was the guest of honour at a bridge and mah-jong party given by Miss Marjorie Wilson at her flat in Gracefield avenue. The guests, each of whom brought a kitchen gift for Miss Scofield, were Mesdames N. Wyber, Maurice Simes, J. L. Kerr, F. W. Stevens, J. Ainger, Misses Margaret Peate, Mildred Garbutt, Hazel Halliday, Phyllis Dunkley, Edna Edmonds, Rene Pedder, and Peggy Clowes. Mr and Mrs John Agar (Wellington) are spending the Christmas holidays with Mrs Agar’s parents, Mr and Mrs J. H. Upham, Gloucester street west.
Mr and Mrs A. B. Struthers (Timaru) arrived in Christchurch yesterday to spend Christmas with Mrs R. G. Malcolmson, Riccarton. Mrs O. A. Thelning (Laverick’s Bay), president of the Le Son’s Bay Women’s Institute, intends to make the overseas trip to the conference of the Associated Countrywomen of the World, to take place in London. The New Zealand Women’s Institute members will leave New Zealand in April and return in July. Mrs Thelning has also been Peninsula group convener.
Miss M. Roberts (“Lynton Flats,” Papanui road) will spend Christmas with Lady Nosworthy (Ashburton), and will leave later for the North Island to stay with her sister, Mrs W. Raine (Marton) and Mrs Fred Williams (Napier). Miss Rose Winter will occupy Miss Roberts’s flat during her absence. Mr and Mrs A. Drummond Sharpe (Geraldine) arrived from the south last night to spend Christmas with Mr and Mrs H. Spence-Clark, Clifton, Sumner. Mr and Mrs H. Washbourn (Timaru) arrived in Christchurch yesterday to visit Mrs Washbourn’s mother, Mrs W. P. Clifton-Mogg, Fendalton.
Mr and Mrs A. E. Kingston and Miss Maisie Kingston (Akaroa) will visit Temuka and Tirnaru for Christmas. At Temuka they will be the guests of Mr Kingston’s father. On Boxing Day Miss Maisie Kingston will be bridesmaid at the marriage at Tirnaru of her cousin. Miss Pauline Bates.
Mr and Mrs Peter Kennedy (Papanui road) returned to Auckland by the Monterey yesterday from a tour abroad. They will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow.
Mrs Donald Burnett (“Te Akatarawa,” Kurow), who is still in the Limes Hospital, will be unable to return to her home for Christmas.
Misses Daphne Walker, Helen Kinsey, and Agnes Baretta (Christchurch) will leave on Monday for a fortnight’s holiday in the North Island.
Miss Nancye Edgar will leave Christchurch by aeroplane this morning to spend a holiday in Auckland.
Mr and Mrs Drummond Holderness (Remuera, Auckland) are spending the holidays in Christchurch.
Mrs William Wilson (Hokitika) has left for Auckland to visit Mrs J. B. Henry.
Mrs F. H. Fish (Meriyale) is the guest of Mrs R. P. Fish, Invercargill, for Christmas and New Year.
Miss Elaine Newton (Wanganui) is spending a holiday at Mount Cook.
Mrs Arnold Preston (Fendalton) is staying with her mother, Mrs J. M- F. Connelly, Bayswater, Auckland.
