Mr F. A. Hempleman, formerly of the Kaiapoi School, the Christchurch Normal School, and "Warwick House Ptwate School, Christchurch, recently retired from the position of headmaster of the Marton Junction School. Many tributes were paid to him and to Mrs Hempleman when the school committee and staff gathered to make a presentation. Mr Hempleman had been 17 years at the old Crofton school, now the Junction school, before which he had been 27 years in schools in Wellington City. He was four years at Kaiapoi, and one year each at Warwick House and the Normal School.
Dr. P. E. Allison, dermatologist to the North Canterbury Hospital Board, was granted six months' leave of absence by the board yesterday morning because of severe illness. Mr T. H. Langford, No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority, will resume his duties to-day. Mr Langford has been spending a holiday in South Canterbury.
Mr C. G. Scrimgeour has resigned his commission as chaplain to the New Zealand military forces, according to a Gazette notice.-—Press Association.
Mr G. W. Simpson, 1.5.0., first vice-president of the Young Men's Christian Association at Perth, Western Australia, and a former Public Service Commissioner, is a visitor to /Christchurch.
