LORRY FALLS DOWN BANK
INJURED DRIVER'S ORDEAL
(PRIS3 iaaOCIATIOM IXLESBiII.) WELLINGTON, December 20. ! A transport driver lay under his lorry for five hours this morning with severe leg injuries after his truck had crashed through a fence on the way down the Paekakariki hill on the way to Wellington, and was brought to rest 50 feet below by two trees. The accident happened about 1 a.m. The truck was the second of three trucks belonging to the Railway Goods Service, and the driver was alone in it.
When the truck did not arrive in town, fears were felt. The two drivers and the manager went back. At the scene of the accident the ambulance driver and others had a difficult task in bringing the injured man up the steep and slippery bank, taking about 45 minutes. The injured man was sent to hospital with a fracture of the right thigh and right leg and severe shock.
