The first Christchurch wool sale of the season, held on December 12, resulted in a total return to growers of £312,058, a reduction of £60,769 on the total for the first sale of the previous season. The catalogue at this sale was 236 bales larger, and 514 bales more were sold. The average price a bale this sale was £l3 7s 3d, or 10.087 d per lb, against £l6 16s 3d, or 12.502 d per lb last season. The 1936 averages were considerably better than those for the last two years. The sale last December was also rather better than the three that followed it, as the Christchurch average of £ 14 10s 5d a bale for the whole season indicates. The Dominion average for last season was £ 14 6s 9d a bale.
