Mr J. G. Simon, a son of Sir John Simon, Chancellor of the Exchequer, arrived at Wellington by the Wanganella yesterday. He was accompanied by his wife and small daughter. Mr Simon is assistant-manager of the P. and O. Company.—Press Association. Mr W. A. C. McDonald was formally admitted to membership of the Christchurch Rotary Club at its weekly meeting yesterday. The induction ceremony was carried out by the Rev. A. C. Watson.
Dr. Eric Lewis, son of Mr and Mrs T. W. Lewis (Park terrace) returned to New Zealand by the Wanganella this week after an absence abroad of nine years. He is spending a few days with his brother, Dr. R. Lewis, at Porirua, before returning to Christchurch. Members of the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening passed a resolution of sympathy with the board's engineer, Mr J. Cullens, whose wife died recently.
Mr A. Juriss will retire on Friday after 30 years' service in the Justice Department at Oamaru, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Hutt Valley. He was formerly in the New Zealand Permanent Artillery, and was a champion athlete and oarsman, having represented Canterbury and Otago as an athlete. He won the champion single sculls at the Christchurch Jubilee regatta at Lyttelton in 1901. He is the holder of the gold medallion of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand.—Press Association. .*..*<;&.s2feA*
