The resignation of Mr E. J. Scantlebury, a member of the board since 1913, because of ill-health, was received and accepted. The chairman and Mr J. H. Harkness paid tributes to the services given by Mr Scantlebury to education over the last 25 years. The chairman and Mr Harkness were deputed to attend the annual sports meeting of the Buller District Schools Association on December 9 at WestThe offer of Mrs Tennant (Charleston) to sell her residence, now occupied by the Charleston teacher, was declined, as it was said- that a newbuiMing WOUltl be erected it the department decided to provide a teachers residence, for that grade of school. The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Hokitika) wrote asking if. the board proposed to acquire the site for the proposed new school at Punakaiki. which he had recommended. Various reasons for removing the schoo? to a site near the recreation reserve were submitted by Mr F. H. Ogilyie (Greymouth), but were considered to be invalid, and the secretary (Mr J. H. Thornton) was instructed to proceed to acquire the new site.. . - The secretary, who reported that no tenders had been received for the new school at Alexander Kiver, was authorised to submit plans and specifications to several contractors with a view to getting a tender for' the work. "On the chairman's recommendation, the Karamea committee was authorised to carry out certain improvements. Miss C. A. Williams (Blackball) was appointed assistant mistress at Karamea, and Miss D.
