THEFT OF POSTAL PACKETS
SENTENCE OF THREE MONTHS* ' IMPRISONMENT

Raymond Hanna Lavender, aged 23, married, formerly a postal officer at Gore, was sentenced in the Supreme Court to three months* imprisonment for the theft of four postal packets containing £2 10s. The accused had been in the postal service for 10 years. Mr Justice Kennedy, in sentencing Lavender, said that thefts of this kind threw suspicion on others and might be the cause of hardship to persons receiving money through the post and in need of that money.
MAN POUND DEAD IN RIVER
OPEN VERDICT RETURNED AT INQUEST
\ (PB«S8 ASBOCU.TIOH TELEOBXM.) MASTERTON, November 22. An open verdict was returned by the Coroner (Mr E. G. Eton) concerning the death of Patrick Joseph Curley, Whose body was found in the Waipora river on November 12, after he had been missing for several days. The Coroner stated that there was no evidence to show how Curley came to be in the water.
