FACIAL ECZEMA IN STOCK

—■—♦ '» ' Claim of Infallible _ / Cure REFUGEE VETERINARIANS PRESCRIPTION v (TRKSa AMOCIITIOa TELKOEAM.) PUKEKOHE, November 4. When Mr W. Finlay, a farmer, of Mauku, returned to the Dominion from a world tour he brought with him what may prove to be a discovery' of national importance—the prescription of a preparation claimed to be an infallible cure for eczema in stock. On board the i cruise ship Orcades Mr Finlay met a Polish Jew refugee veterinary surgeon. Dr. L,. Dukatenzeiler, who was travelling to Melbourne. In the course of a discussion of stock troubles Mr Finlay mentioned the loss suffered by New Zealand farmers through eczema and related the symptoms and effects of the disease. Dr. Dukatenzeiler recognised the disease as by nd means uncommon in Central Europe and one which he had met on many occasions. He thought it extraordinary that no curative methods had been devised in the Dominion and was astounded when told of the extent of its ravages. Dr. Dukatenzeiler said that the disease originated in the liver and spread throughout the system, affecting the udder and eyes. He had found a certain preparation to be most effective, and this was the recognised cure of the disease inCentral European countries. According to Mr Finlay his informant seemed confident that his preparation would effect a cure, and when he left the ship at Melbourne he gave Mr Finlay two prescriptions, one a drench to be given internally, and the other for a lotion to be applied to the eyes if inflammation or blindness set in. Mr Finlay intends to have the prescriptions made up, and if they seem to be effective he will submit them to the Department of Agriculture. He would not praise or condemn the preparations until they had been tested and was not prepared to think that Dr. Dukatenzeiler knew more than did New Zealand's own experts.
