4 AMALGAMATION / POSSIBLE AT ASHBURTON The "possibility of a further move being made to include Allenton in the borough of Ashburton was mentioned at the meeting of the Ashburton County Council yesterday, when town planning proposals were being discussed. The council decided to apply to the Internal Affairs Department for an Order-in-Council declaring Allenton, Methven, and Rakaia town planning areas under the Town Planning Act The engineer (Mr H. A. Vezey) reported that the town planning officer to the Department of Internal Affairs (Mr J. W. Mawsnn) had visited Ashburton during th-j week. He said Mr Mawson thought Hinds and MayneTa were too small for town planning areas, but recommended that steps be taken concerning Allenton. Methven, and Rakaia. A ' ■ , , Mr J. Carr: Was it suggested that Allenton should amalgamate with the borough of Ashburton? Mr Vezey: There is talk of that. Mr J. Bland asked if the clerk (Mr G. Kelly) had heard anything about a move to amalgamate Allenton with the borough. The speaker said he had heard oi \\. Mr Kelly replied that he had heard nothing official. It was agreed that town planning arrangements could be made for Allenton in the meantime.
