OFFICIAL FORECASTS (THE PRESS Special Scrvtee.j WELLINGTON, November 3. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Light to fresh north-easterly winds prevailing. Weather fair to cloudy. Temperatures rather cool. Seas rough at first north of Kaikoura. Otherwise slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light to moderate north-easterly winds predominating. Weather fair to fine,, with moderate temperatures. Seas slight. DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:— Fair to cloudy south of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura. Elsewhere overcast and with intermittent | rain, but becoming fair to-mor-row except between Hawke's Bay and East Cape. Temperatures cool. An anti-cyclone covers the South Tasman Sea and the South Island, but another shallow depression is crossing the North Island. Pressure is falling again over southeastern Australia. Winds: Light to moderate northerlies at first from New Plymouth and Tauranga northward. Otherwise southeast to north-east prevailing. Strong at times about Cook Strait, but otherwise light to fresh. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough at first about Cook Strait, and rather rough on the east coast of the North Island, but moderating to-morrow and elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate south-east to easterly winds, and slight to moderate seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Yesterday was fine in Christchurch but the sky was overcast in the morning and there was a trace of rain. A light south-easterly wind veered to the north-east in the afternoon, which was warm and sunny. The maximum temperature recorded was ( 53.3 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was cloudy and there was a light easterly wind. The temperature was 47 degrees and the barometer was rising slowly at 30.36 inches. The maximum temperature was 69 degrees. The barometer was fairly steady with the reading at 5 p.m. 30.06 inches. Wellington—The weather was overcast with a strong south-easterly wind, which decreased during the afternoon. The minimum temperature on Wednesday night was 45.2 degrees, and the maximum yesterday 51.9 degrees. At 3.30 p.m. the temperature | was 51.3 degrees, and the barometer 30.21 inches.
