SILVER WEDDING CELEBRATED

SOCIAL AT WAIKARI MR AND MRS H. SAUNDERCOCK HONOURED To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the marriage of Mr and Mrs H. Saundercock a large number of friends from all parts of North Canterbury attended a social and dance held in the Waikari Hall. Mr and Mrs Saundercock have spent the whole of their wedded life in Waikari, and ttie crowded hall was a well-deserved tribute to their popularity and to the interest they have taken m the public and social activities of the district. The hall was effectively decorated with coloured streamers and bowls of flowers, a prominent position being given to a blue and silver scroll, on which was printed, “Silver Anniversary, 1913-1938.” _ . .. „ Music for dancing was played by George Bradford’s orchestra, extras being played by Mrs W. Trail (piano) and Messrs W. B. and C. N. Craig (bagpipes). Songs were sung by Mr Arthur Burke (Amberley), Mrs Traill playing the accompaniments, and Mr C. L*. Saundercock was master of ceremonies. Mr J. Reader conveyed the congratulations and good wishes of their friends to Mr and Mrs Saundercock, and referred to the good work they had done in the district and the support they had given various sports and public and business organisations. He wished Mr land Mrs Saundercock long life and happiness, and musical honours and cheers were given as Mr Saundercock replied. After Mr C. Saundercock had read a number of messages of congratulation from all parts of the Dominion the wedding cake was cut. Novelty dances were won by Mrs R. M. Norton and Mr F. Lukey and Mr and Mrs H. Dunedin) to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Ernest Vincent. . . The time was spent m games, musical items, and community singing, the soloists being Mrs W. D. AMURI GOLF CLUB The annual ball of the Amuri Golf Club, held in the Waiau Hall recently, attracted many visitors from all parts of North Canterbury.
