AWAMOA CLUB OFFICIAL OPENING .ON SATURDAY The official opening of the Awamoa Bowling Club was held on Saturday afternoon in brilliant sunshine before a large gathering of members and visitors from other clubs. A welcome to the visiting bowlers was extended by the club president, Mr J. G. Christie, who wished players a most successful season. The Mayor, Mr L. J. K. Familton, and representatives of other clubs, replied to the welcome. The president’s wife, Mrs Christie, bowled the first bowl for a “toucher.” The Mayor then officially declared the season open, exetending best wishes to the club. The Wingatul will load here for Wellington and Auckland, via ports, on Saturday, October 29. The Waipahl is due to load about Saturday, October 22. for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth, via ports. The m.v. Gale left Oamaru on Saturday for Wellington and Wanganui, via ports.
