CROQUET
AWAMOA CL 17 71 OPEES SEASON A large attendance of club members and visitors from other clubs was present at the Awamoa Ladles* Croquet Club s greens on Saturday afternoon when the official opening ceremony was performed by the Mayor. The visitors were .welcomed by the club president, Mrs A. Miller, who said that members were looking forward to a good season. Mrs Miller thanked the Oamaru Borough Council for the assistance it had given in the preparation of the green. She Presented the Mayoress (Mrs Familton) with a bouquet. The Mayor drove a ball through the first hoop and in declaring the season open referred to the valuable work done by sports club in improving the beauty spots of the town. ~ Representatives of the Gardens Croquet Club and the Awamoa Ladies’ Bowling Club extended best wishes for a successful season. GARDENS CLUB The Mayor (Mr L. ~J. K. Familton) officially opened the Gardens Croquet Club’s lawns on Thursday afternoon, when there was a large attendance of members and visitors from other clubs. During the afternoon games and competitions were played, and after the play the trophies were presented by the president. Mrs Meldrum. In opening the green, the Mayor complimented the club on the improvements made to the grounds by the erection of a shelter to serve two of the greens. He shot a ball through the first hoop, to open the season. A bouquet was presented to the Mayoress (Mrs Familton), by Mrs Meldrum. PERSONAL A presentation to Mr H. V. Ross, a member of St. Paul’s Bible class, who is leaving Oamaru to work in Wellington, was made at a recent gathering by the Rev. J. M. McKenzie.
