Mr R. McGillivray, Fields Superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, advised that he was in communication with the department with a view to arranging an exhibit for the 1939 show. Mr D. Barnes forwarded a letter from the Minister for Agriculture, in which it was stated that the question of animal research on the lines of Dr. J. Hammond’s recommendations, as advocated by the association, was under consideration by the Government.
An application from the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union for space at the show to display basketware for the Institute for the Blind, was granted. The chairman (Mr J. Dempsey) reported on the judging of the ewe hogget competition. The entries were satisfactory, he said, but would probably have been larger if the place winners were not put to the expense of showing part of the flocks at the show. Mr J. Mcßae remarked that he thought the expense of bringing the sheep to the show was killing the competition. “I intend to say more about it when the matter is brought up again.” A vote of thanks was passed to the judge of the event, Mr J. Linton.
