THE TIME MACHINE School in 2066 A.D.
There was the dial before me, and I could hardly make up my mind what should like to visit. I pressed a button with. 20W on it,mistaking it for 1066. Whrr-rr-rr-r, and I found myself going along a wide street with peculiar white stone and solid glass
buildings on either tide. Things flashed past—l think they -were motor-cars. , ...» , I seemed to be making lor a large glass place which other boys and girls were entering. Then I real* feed*it was a school, and that I was carrying a queer kind of paper suitcase. As 1 entered I greeted my friends (who also seemed to be there), and sat down at a table.
School in 20861 It was strange. We began with history about the great war, and continued with the kings and queens from George V to Queen Elisabeth (our princess Elizabeth). The-teacher-showed us a vase, a clock, a candlestick, a fountain pen, and several other objects which had been dug up near the town. These had been kindly lent by the museum. She said these things dated back to King George Vl's reign. Some of the girls laughed at such things, and pointed to the clock On the wall, saying, "fancy telling the time by I those things when they--" Just as I looked at the clock I heard a buzzing sound, and the'very next moment I was back with Lady Gay with much to tell. Now, Shipmates, it you look Into the future, with the aid of Lady Gay's machine, be very careful not to look at anything mechanical, because it breaks the spell. Of course if you want to come back it's all right. —MEGAN LLOYD (aged 14), 32 Dormer street, Papanui.
