DIAMOND JUBILEE

i ■ • ANDREWS AND BEAVEN, LIMITED STAFF CELEBRATES SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY Sixty years ago, in 1878, Mr A. W. Beaven became the partner of Mr William Andrews, who had Established a business in Christchurch two years earlier for the manufacturing ai agricultural implements. As the years passed Messrs Andrews and Beaven won many high awards at exhibtions held in New Zealand and in Australia, and gained also the higher award for chaffcutters at the Sydney Centennial Show in 1888. The original business premises in Moor house avenue have been altered beyond recognition, and this Arm, which started with one assistant, now has a staff of 60. One of the best-known staff members is Mr C. Kent, who has been with the firm for 52 years. The dance held last evening at Chancery Court to celebrate the diamond jubliee was a very happy gathering, the comfortable lounges being bright with spring flowers and greenery for the occasion.' Beaven wore a frock of flower-patterned ninon, the myrtlegreen and cerise tonings being accentuated by a two-toned sash swathed and tied in a bow at the front of the waist; a corsage spray of crimson flowers provided an effective contrast on Mrs S. W. Andrews's frock of black flat crepe with Empire bodice of lace; Mrs T. W. Andrews wore a brightlypatterned rose, jade, and primrose coatee over her slightly-trained frock of black moire taffeta. Miss Weston's frock of black lace had diamante shoulder straps, a sash being of lavender and fuchsia georgette; Miss Davidson trimmed the neckline of her begonia pink lace frock with coral pink flowers; Mrs Wornall wore a midnight blue matalasse frock with a cluster of primroses on the bodice.

The Chancery Court Rhythm Boys supplied the music, and during a "Spanish interlude" songs were sung by Miss D. Weston, and a "toreador" burlesque caused much amusement.

Members of the capable organising committee were Miss D. Weston (secretary). Miss Thelma Davidson, Messrs T. -W. Andrews (chairman), W. H. Tucker, M. Stace, K. Doell. W- A. East, L. Scanes and N.
