CAMERON SHIFXD MATCH UNITED SENIORS BEAT CUST The Waikari-Hawarden United senior Rugby team played Cust at Waikari on Saturday for the Cameron Shield, which is competed for annually between the leading teams in the Hurunui and North Canterbury Sub-Unions. United won a well-contested game by 15 points to 6. Cust pressed strongly for about half of the first spell, but after that United asserted its superiority, and gained a commanding lead. Cust again attacked strongly for the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the United defence held. United regained the ascendancy and dominated play in the final stages. For Cust, W. Smith scored a try which was not converted, and Hanns kicked a penalty. Tries, none of which was converted, were scored for United by L. Saundercock (2), Gardner, Higinbottom, and McKenzie. Mr S. Maxwell, of Culverden, was the referee. The teams were entertained to dinner after the game. The United senior team has had a most successful season. In addition to winning the Hurunui Sub-Union's senior competition, the team has also won the Mockett Trophy, played for by the winning team and the runner-up in the competition, and the Cameron shield. ATHLETIC BEATS AKAROA The Athletic Rugby team (Christchurch) played a friendly game against Akaroa on Saturday, when the visitors won by 23 points to 14, after a good,' fast, open game. The halftime score was 9 to 8 in the Athletic team's favour. Mr W. R. Moore was referee. The visiting team was entertained in the evening at a dinner at the Hotel Metropole, when the Mayor of Akaroa (Mr F. Davis) presided. The team returned to Christehurch on Sunday afternoon.
